"I have been making fried cabbage for over 50 years. Actually my mother taught me the recipe over 60 years ago. I always use about 2 1/2 lb. of bacon when I make mine. I simply fry my bacon and then boil the cabbage. I don't use spices because the bacon is flavored by the bacon. I make this for church socials family meals (with only 5 family members when I make it we eat it for a week but no one complains.) That is all that it takes to make this hearty and filling dish"

All About Boston Cream Pie
If you're familiar with the wonderful all-American dessert, Boston cream pie, then you know the name is a bit misleading. The dessert is actually more cake than pie. Boston cream pie has custard filling in between two sponge cake layers. It is topped with chocolate glaze of ganache. The dessert is traditionally cut into wedges and served like a pie. The name is thought to have come from the pie tins this dessert was baked in. When this dessert was created in the mid 1800s, pie tins were more common than cake pans.
As the first incarnation of the popular pudding cake, Boston cream pie is actually the precursor to the poke cake. That's why this recipe for Boston Cream Poke Cake is so perfect! Poke cakes are like this one are loaded with pudding filling, just like Boston cream pie. This Boston cream poke cake is really a shortcut Boston cream pie. If has all the flavors, but it will save you a bunch of time by using cake mix.

I thought I was going to like this poke cake more than I did. I didn't like how it was randomly moist/soggy in some places but perfectly cake-like in others. It's nothing against this recipe (I don't think). I guess I just learned that I don't care much for poke cakes!

I made a very similar to this recipe for my grown daughter's birthday back in June. She LOVED it, Boston Creme is her favorite, anyway, and this cake was easy and perfect for the moment! That recipe also used boxed cake mix and packaged pudding mix, the only difference was it called for a from-scratch chocolate ganache for the frosting, and was SUPPOSED to run down the sides and look all gooey and delicious, which it did. A very delicious multi-purpose recipe to keep and to share!

I made this for a gathering and it was a huge hit. So easy to make. I wish I had given the chocolate more time to chill. Love it and will be making this again.
