Learn how to make an original Irish coffee recipe with this 'Mad Men' Irish Coffee recipe. Featured in an episode of the AMC hit show, this recipe comes from the Pierre Hotel in New York City. It's made with Irish whiskey, brown sugar, coffee & more.

The hotel uses Bushmill’s Irish Whiskey, but the drink also works well with John Jameson Irish Whiskey. Any variety of whiskey made in Ireland will suffice, hence the name “Irish Coffee.”

This recipe is used by permission from The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook: Inside the Kitchens, Bars, and Restaurants of Mad Men by Judy Gelman and Peter Zheutlin (Smart Pop, 2011).

Yields1 Drink

  • 2 ounces Irish Whiskey
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons light brown sugar
  • 4 ounces hot coffee
  • whipped cream for topping

  1. Stir whiskey, brown sugar, and coffee together in a mug.
  2. Add whipped cream on top.
