Cafe Rio Copycat Sweet Pork

This is one of the easiest copycat recipes for even the beginner cook to master. This recipe for Cafe Rio Copycat Sweet Pork is made in the slow cooker. Just throw the pork butt or shoulder in your slow cooker and come home to amazing aromas and food. This recipe only needs 4 ingredients including the pork! The secret ingredient is root beer. When these simple yet delicious flavors meld it creates one perfect bite of food.

Ingredients

  • 1 (3-pound) pork shoulder/butt
  • 1 package el paso sauce packet (roasted garlic)
  • 1 cup root beer (A&W)
  • 2 cups light brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Place the pork in a slow cooker. mix the sauce, root beer and brown sugar in a bowl and pour all over the pork.

  2. Cook on low for 6 hours, then remove the meat and shred (it should be quite easy and tender). Place the meat back in the sauce and cook on low for an additional 2 hours.

  3. Serve immediately.

Notes

Rumor has it that Dr. Pepper or Coke are the preferred pops for Cafe Rio, but with this roasted garlic sauce root beer seemed to bring out the best flavor.
